Two years on from Parejo's international debut

The VCF skipper made his first appearance for Spain on March 27th, 2018

March 27th is the two-year anniversary of a very special day for Valencia CF captain Dani Parejo, who made his debut for Spain in a match against Argentina.

'La Roja' were playing at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid against the South American side, and would win the game 6-1. Parejo had been knocking at the door of the national team, thanks to his stellar performances at club level, and was given an opportunity for a brief cameo appearance.

The midfielder came off the bench in the 82nd minute of the game, replacing Thiago. He used the number 23 shirt, which he has framed at home as a memento.

"It was an incredible night. It's the day that every player dreams of, and it couldn't have gone better, because we had a great game against Argentina. I will never forget it," says Parejo, recalling the day in 2018.

Although he would only play 8 minutes in the contest, it was a milestone moment for the Spaniard, who was watched by his family from the stands.
"My home in Madrid is within sight of the Metropolitano, so my entire family came to the stadium to watch me," remembers the midfielder. "They enjoyed themselves just as much -or even more- than I did."

Julen Lopetegui gave Parejo his debut, whilst Luis Enrique brought him back into the equation to play for Spain against Norway last year, in a game held at Mestalla during Valencia CF's Centenary celebrations.

Parejo has now made four appearances for his country, and hopes that his excellent showings for his club make him an option for Euro 2021.
